  • Notes
    • There is a James Hill who is in residence of house and garden of Bradford manor during the tithe apportionment of August 1838. Could this be our missing link? Nothing is known of this fellow or what became of him.

    1. [S118] Parish Register, Church of England, (Not published), Halwell-by-Holsworthy, Devon, England, 11 Apr 1750.
John Hill and Mary Bickle, both of this parish.
Note: There is a dual marriage of a Richard Bickle to Grace James at Halwell-by-Holsworthy on the very same day. This could be a lead in determining who my Mary Bickle's parents may have been.

    2. [S17] Parish Registers, England, Church of England, (England, Exeter: Devon Record Office), Beaworthy, Devon, England, 9 Apr 1776.

He a batchelor & Mary Smale, spinster, botp [she signed Mary Smale alias Hill]. Wit: William Hill/Stephen Smale. Again, the witness, William Hill, suggests a strong tie between this James, Robert and William who all either married, had children christened, or were buried at Beaworthy.
