I have since done some research on Dorothy Blanchard and I don't think that Mary was her mother. The marriage record of Dorothy Blanchard to Isaac Hogarth said that she was the daughter-in-law to James and Mary Morley. Other's suggested that the term "daughter-in-law" at that time meant step-daughter to James Morley, meaning that Mary was married before to a Blanchard. However, because of Mary Morley's headstone in Trinity, Mary Morley would have been too young to be Dorothy's mother. So, I suggest that Mary was Dorothy's older sister and became her legal guardian when their parents died. I also found a possible brother, Richard Blanchard, to the pair who started his own plantation in Bay de Verde, which is basically on the other side of the bay. Armed with this info, I found a Blanchard family in the Poole and Wimborne Mintster area, that has all three plus other children, all born in the right timeframe. If this is true, then their parents were Richard Blanchard and Dorothy Scrivener and both of them died in 1757 when Dorothy was about 13 and Mary 23. To add a little further circumstantial evidence, I also found a John Scrivener buried in Trinity in 1774, I believe it was, just before Dorothy's marriage to Isaac....I have more information and if you need more you can contact me at stoneynl@xplornet.com.

I never did find James and Mary Morely's marriage. I just know that they had children together and one or both were considered her parent/step-parent. I have been looking everywhere and yet have not turned it up. I have looked in Trinity because that is where they lived and where they are buried. I have also looked in Old Perlican area too because they used to overwinter there. I have also looked in Massachussetts because I saw that James' father was there in the 1730s or so, and I have looked in England. I still haven't found it, and maybe if it can be found we will know for sure if Mary was originally a Blanchard, married a Blanchard by being widowed, and perhaps even where she came from if she wasn't born in Trinity but somewhere in England or somewhere else. This marriage record could answer a lot of our questions. I am sorry if I gave the impression that I found their marriage record.
