      Wife of Retired Stereotyper dies in Hospital
      Mrs. Euphemia Simpson Nicol, 75 of 625 Victor Street, who celebrated her Golden Wedding anniversary in 1947, died Tuesday in Grace hospital.

      Mrs. Nicol was the wife of John Nicol who joined the Free Press staff as a stereotyper in 1911 and served continuously until his retirement in June, 1947. They celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding - which took place Dec. 3, 1897 in Edinburgh, Scotland, - on Dec. 3, 1947.

      Mrs. Nicol was born in Edinburgh, and came to Winnipeg in 1916 here she lived until her death.

      Surviving are her husband, six sons, David, John, Albert, George, Thomas and Gordon, 10 grandchildren and one sister Mrs. J. Moodie.

      Funeral services will be held at 1:15 p.m. Saturday in the A. R. Gardiner funeral home with Rev. H. G. Totton officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

      Veteran Stereotyper John Nicol Retires - 1948

      John Nicol, 73, known among Winnipeg printers as the dean of stereotyping, has retired from the Winnipeg Free Press after 36 years and one month continusou service with the firm

      A wallet, containing a sum of money contributed by th staff, was presented to Mr. Nicol. Mrs. Nicol, his wife, received a bouquet of carnations.

      Mr. Nicol, was has been stereotyping for 58 years, learned his trade in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland, before coming to Canada in 1911.

      He has six sons: David, who works for the Toronto Star; George with the Regina Leader Post; and Jack, Albert, Thomas and Gordon, all of Winnipeg.

      Ex-Stereotyper at Free Press, John Nicol Dies

      John Nicol, 81, of 791 Home Street, who had been a stereotyper at the Winnipeg Free Press for 37 years, died Sunday in Winnipeg General Hospital. Mr. Nicol retired in 1948.

      He was one of the early members of the International Electrotypers and Sterotypers union and a member of the Sons of Scotland. His wife Euphemia died in 1954. Surviving are six sons David, Jack, Albert, George, Thomas and Gordon and nine grandchildren.

      Funeral will be at 2:45 p.m. Thursday in the A. B. Gardiner funeral home. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial gardens.

      Surprise Party Honors Couple's Silver Wedding

      Mr. and Mrs. George Nicol, 573 Windsor Avenue, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at a surprise party, Saturday evening, in their home. A presentation of a silver tea service and tray and also a bouquet of roses was made. Card winners were: Mrs. W. McPherson, Mrs. W. Argo and Miss Betty Anderson, Mr. G. Cruickshank, Mr. J.       Mr. and Mrs. John Nicol, Agnes street, were honoured on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary September 23 when their daughter Mrs. Jean Knowles entertained at dinner at Oden's restaurant. A son, Arthur R. Nicol, read several congratulatory messages and made a presentation on behalf of the family.

      Mr. and Mrs. Nicol have seven other children: Mrs. H. J. Chase, Edmonton; Mrs. A. Schebek, Hornpayne, Ont.; Robert A., Angusville, Man., John A. and Kenneth C., Winnipeg; James R., Toronto; and David, Trail, B.C There are 13 grandchildren and one great grandson.

      George Nicol, 71, of 573 Windsor Avenue, who died Saturday in Deer Lodge Hospital, was buried Tuesday in Elmwood Cemetery following funeral services in Mordue Bros. funeral home, Rev. H. C. wyman officiated. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Mr. Nicol came to Winnipeg 38 years ago. He was a member of the Sons of Scotland, Lord Selkirk camp and a member of the Elmwood and East Kildonan. He is survived by his wife Margaret, and one daughter Betty at home.
