  As part of the preponderance of evidence being built to substantiate John Colwill and Mary Williams as being the parents of my Mary Colwill who married John Ellis it should be noted that this John Colwill had a lease in Sourton dated 5 March 1714/5 on the lives of John Colwill, Mary Williams, and Johan, daughter of John Colwill. Additionally, there is an absence of children being baptised between 1717/18 and 1721. This would provide the perfect opportunity for my Mary to have been born However, the place of her baptism is as yet unknown. Additionally, there is the child who is referred to in 1724 as Miriam in the register of baptisms but is also alternatively recorded as William in one transcript of the register. A lengthy note included with the pedigree found in Colwill Families of Devon, vol. II, p 513 reads as follows: "(BC) Bratton Clovelly, Devon. (Kn) Kenn, Devon. (Lz) Lezant. (Ms) Marystowe, Devon. (Ps) Poundstock. (Tp) St. Teath, (Wk) Week St. Mary. Note: Jone, John, and Philip, children of John, are mentioned in Will 36 (Wk) of his brother Weymouth, Nov 1709. William Colwill, in his Will 38(Wk), 1 Jun 1716, mentions my brother's children, John son of my brother, and William Colwill, godson. In C11/275/63, 12 April 1725, John Colwill (formerly of Bratton Clovelly, now of Kenn) is sued by Samuel Lyne of Launceston for non-payment of a note for 80GB, wherein Lyne claims that John Gayer assigned a lease in Widmouth in Poundstock to John Colwill, 12 Feb. 1694/5. Lyne also claims that one Callmady of Langdon in Devon leased premises in West Coombe in Sourton in Devon, 5 March 1714/5, to John Colwill for 99 years on the lives of John Colwill, Mary Williams, daughter of William Williams of Sourton, and Johan, daughter of said John Colwill. Perhaps Joan (John's daughter from his first marriage to Joan Cowling) m 1722 (Ms) Edmund Pengelly. Joane was of Thrushelton, a parish adjoining Bratton Clovelly, where her father lived in 1721." This particular John Colwill was named as Executor of Will 3 of his brother Waymuth, 1710 (Wk) defendant in Chancery Proceeding C11/275/63, 12 Apr 1725.
