1857. Marriage solemnized at the parish church in the parish of Islington in the County of Middlesex, entry no. 129
      When married 3 Nov 1857
Groom: William Knight, full age, bachelor, clerk, residing at 1 Church St., Arlington Square, father was Edward Knight, gent.
Bride: Ellenor [sic] Mary Vaughan, full age [sic], spinster, no occupation, residing at 1 Church St., Arlington Square, father Thomas Charles Vaughan, gent.
Married in the parish church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church, by banns by L. Stanham, Curate
Signed William Knight and Ellenor Mary Vaughan
      Witnesses: Tho. C. Vincent, S. A. Vincent
Initially when we were contacted about this marriage for Eleanor Mary Vaughan there were two many elements of the event that did not match the known facts of the family - her father's name was recorded as Thomas Charles Vaughan and not Charles Vaughan as he had been christened and known through all census and registrations. He was described as a Gent when in fact he had never reached the status of a Gent and was unlikely to in his trade as saddler and cab proprietor. The bride, herself, was described as being of full age, when it was known that if she had stated her true age it would have been 17 or 18, at least 3 years under the age of no parental consent required. Charles Vaughan was not a witness on the marriage so we can only presume that he and her mother were not aware of the marriage or had raised no objections during the banns process. It was only upon seeing the names of the two witnesses after the most recent discovery of Eleanor's sister, Susannah's marriage, to Thomas C. Vincent that the names of the witnesses would make perfect sense in the context of a marriage between Susannah's sister, Eleanor with any other individual, in this case, with William Knight.
